2025/11/17 Day1404 【英作 for 推し#36】
2025年11月17日の、KiaraとIRySのボードゲーム配信での英語を使って英作する。
GUESS WHOとDOKTOR BIBBER!っていう子供向けのボードゲームで遊んでた。
配信↓
Channel: Takanashi Kiara Ch. hololive-EN
The stream title: 【OFFCOLLAB】playing doctor and guessing who! Handcam ✋
で、この配信の18:46の時間に、IRySがKiaraに対して、”Is your person on the older side?”っていう質問をしてた。
その質問の後に思ったことを書く。
My Original Sentence
What should you do if you are asked “From what age of group do you think is on the older side? “
It’s hard to answer that question, because it depends on the person and if you tell a wrong answer even to a little degree, some people can become uncomfortable (they can even get angry).
Such a controversial question.

総評
overall you did really well, and the tone is definitely streamer-casual and conversational.
The meaning also comes through clearly.
There are just a few spots where native speakers would phrase things slightly differently—not because you’re wrong, but because we tend to shorten, smooth, or re-order things in spoken English.
一文ずつのフィードバック
“What should you do if you are asked ‘From what age of group do you think is on the older side?’ ”
Native speakers wouldn’t say “from what age of group” — it sounds like textbook English.
More natural versions that keep your original structure and vibe:
- 👉 “What should you do if someone asks, ‘What age counts as the older side?’”
- 👉 “What should you do if someone asks, ‘What age is considered the older side?’”
If you want an even more casual streamer tone:
- 👉 “What do you even do if someone asks, like, ‘So… what age is considered old?’”
(This one sounds very natural for streaming.)
「教科書っぽい」って言われるの、不自然って言われるよりも悔しい…
IRySがしてた質問内に出てきたon the older sideの形のまま使いたかったけど、今日はおとなしくこの文そのまま使う。
“It’s hard to answer that question, because it depends on the person and if you tell a wrong answer even to a little degree, some people can become uncomfortable (they can even get angry).”
Meaning is great, but it’s too long and formal in structure for spoken English.
More natural phrasing while keeping your tone:
👉 “It’s hard to answer, because it really depends on the person — and if you’re even slightly off, some people might get uncomfortable… or even pissed.”
Notes:
| Your phrase | Natural alternative | Why |
|---|---|---|
| tell a wrong answer | say the wrong thing | “tell” isn’t natural here, and “wrong answer” sounds too academic |
| even to a little degree | even slightly | more natural and casual |
| can become | might get | more conversational |
| (they can even get angry) | … or even pissed/offended. | fits the tone of a joking streamer complaint |
If you don’t want strong language like “pissed,” the softer version:
→ “…some people might get uncomfortable. Or offended.”
sayを使うか、tellを使うか、ちょっと迷ってtellにした。けど不自然だったかー。この辺の自然さ不自然さの感覚をもっと磨きたい。
even to a little degreeは不自然だよなあと思いながら書いてた。「ちょっとでも」って英語で何て言うのかが分からないことに今日気づいた。
can become→might get、(they can even get angry)→… or even pissed/offended.この二つは自然かなーと思ったけど、一応勧められた方を採用しておく。
“Such a controversial question.”
✨ Perfect. Natural. Good comedic timing.
This works great as a punchline.
If you want a version that sounds even more casual streamer-style:
- “Such a controversial question, dude.”
- “Like—why would you ask that?”
- “That’s basically a trap question.”
But yours is already fine.
自然ならよかった。
Full polished version (same meaning, same vibe)
Here’s a version that sounds like something a streamer would say casually out loud:
What do you even do if someone asks, like, ‘What age is considered the older side?’ It’s so hard to answer, because it depends on the person — and if you’re even slightly off, some people might get uncomfortable… or even pissed off. Such a controversial question.
✔ Overall evaluation
| Aspect | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tone (casual streamer vibe) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ | Very good — just needed smoother phrasing |
| Grammar | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Minor phrasing issues, nothing major |
| Naturalness | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Good, just slightly formal in long sentence |
